You have been saved. You have been baptized. You are in a great church. You have great friends that love Jesus. Why in the world would you leave where you are at to go across the world to spread the Gospel? There are many reasons but to put it simply the answer is, the Bible! There are three things from the Bible that show us we are supposed to go. Jesus’ example, God’s command, and the need for the Savior.
The first reason that we should be willing to go around the world to preach the Gospel is because Jesus has given us an example. You see Jesus was set! He was sitting on a throne in heaven and had everything that anyone could possible want. He was in the presence of God and was in perfect unison with Him. There was no sin or problems in heaven. Jesus was the creator of the world and he made everything. There was no reason for Jesus to leave heaven other than the fact that he cared enough for mankind to come die for sinners. He could have been perfectly happy in heaven. He didn’t have to come down to earth, but Jesus did! He came to earth to give up his life. If Jesus was willing to leave heaven to go save others, what about you? Are you willing to leave the comforts of your home and church to go to a place of great need to preach the Gospel? Most likely many of you would be perfectly content to stay at your church right where you are at. You may think that you would enjoy living your life right where you are at, but don’t you think Jesus would have preferred staying in heaven rather than coming to earth? It would have been far easier but Jesus realized something. God sent him. John 20:21 said, “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.” God sent Jesus and therefore Jesus went. However, in this same verse, the Bible tells us that we are sent. The question is, “Are you going?”
This leads us to the fact that God has commanded us to go. Not only has Jesus given us an example by his life, but also he has given us a command in His Word. In this verse Jesus is looking at the church at that time and commanding them to go. We as the church have a command to go preach the Gospel! Many people would argue with me on this but I think that it is clear from the Bible that the church’s main goal is to go preach the Gospel to the entire World. (Luke 24:46-47, Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8) Let’s take a look at one of these verses. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15) Jesus is speaking to the disciples and tells them that they have one main job. It is to go preach the Gospel! We have a command from God but many of us will not obey Him simply because we are comfortable or do not take God seriously.
Finally, we need to remember that we have a great opportunity to change lives. Not only has Jesus given us an example and a command but also there is a awesome chance to impact lives for eternity. Think about what you are going to spend you life doing if you go as a missionary. You will be telling others about a Savior. You will be using your life to save others. There are millions of people that have never heard about Jesus all around the world! They are doomed for eternity if they are not told about the Gospel. There is a huge need around the world.
Why don’t you consider following Jesus, obeying God, and doing something awesome with your life? Spreading the Gospel is the command that Jesus has given to us and I think we should seriously consider what that means for every single one of us.
