Giving Life Everything You Got

Would you live differently if you had cancer and only six months to live? I think most of us would say, “Yes.” We would be more focused on the important things in life. We would waste less time on trivial matters. We would give the six months everything we had.

Today, I would like to tell you that you have the cancer of being human, and you are dying. It might take 100 years to get you, but your death is coming. For most people, it takes between 70-80, and for some less time than that, however, nobody is going to live forever, and we only have a short time left on this earth. We should give it everything we got, but sadly many times, we don’t.

Too many times, we don’t give life everything we got. We are not putting 100% into our work or our family. We waste too much time on trivial tasks and things that do not matter. Our priorities revolve around comforts rather than causes. We spend more time staring at a screen than trying to change the world. Our only motivation is the weekend or vacation. Something needs to change in our lives. Here are a few reasons why we should give life everything we got.

Our time on earth is short

The Bible says in James 4:14, “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” The Bible says that our lives are like the vapor the comes out of a teapot. It second it is there, and then it has vanished. Although it might be challenging to accept, our lives are short. We are on earth for a moment, and then we are gone. We only have a little bit of time. We must consider the reality and certainty of death to live completely.

Have you ever counted the days that you have left on this earth? Only God knows the exact amount of days you have left, but just to realize that your life is coming to an end have you ever sat down and figured out how many years, months, days, and hours you have left to live if you live to be 80 years old. It may sound like a morbid idea, but it will help you realize that we only have a short amount of time left in our lives, and we should use it to the best of our ability. “So teach us to number our days, That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalms 90:12

It is not worth it to play life safe

One man said, “Average is always a safe choice, and it is the most dangerous choice you can make.” I believe that he is correct. If our goal is to live an average life, then we are making the most dangerous choice because it stops us from doing something great with our lives. We should always attempt to go beyond average. It does not mean that we need large amounts of money or a fancy car, but it does mean that we are doing something great for God and helping others. If you would like to read an interesting book about dreaming big and not settling for an average life, you can click here

Are you just living to do what everyone else expects you to do? Are you just trying to make more money to buy more stuff? Are you settling for the average life? Are you just working to be able to retire, or are you striving to follow God’s will for your life. Every person’s life is different, and everyone’s for their life is different, so I can’t tell you what to do, but I can tell you not to settle for an average or safe life. Missionary William Carey said, “Expect great things from GodAttempt great things for God.”

You only have one life

The Bible makes it clear that we only have one life here on earth. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Hebrews 9:27. We are not going to get do-overs. We are not going to be reincarnated and get hundreds of chances at life. We only have one life so we should use it to the best of our ability. Life should be given everything we got! Don’t settle for mediocre but instead strive for greatness and give life 100%. Step out into the unknown and give life everything you got!

Although I don’t know what God’s will for you is or what is your goal is in life, I believe that every Christian should consider giving their lives as missionaries. You can read my article Why You Should Consider Giving Your Life to be a Missionary here.
