And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. Luke 5:5-6

These are expert fishermen. Their living depends on their skill. They don’t just fish for fun. It is their livelihood. These men would know all the tricks of the trade. They would know all the good fishing holes. They would know the best time to fish. Yet, in spite of all this, they could not catch anything that night. Then, Jesus tells them to try again. They let down their nets one and catch hundreds. Their boat starts sinking because of all the fish. The expert fishermen had forgotten that Jesus is God and he can do anything! He can do far more than what we expect. I think that many days I have the attitude of the fishermen. It is great learning how to do ministry better. It is awesome to think of new ways to witness to people and teach them the Bible. However, I must never forget the God factor. He is the one that works in people’s lives! He is the one that saves souls. I need to rely on Him to do the work.
