To the Golden Shore – Adoniram Judson

This book goes very in-depth about the ministry of Adoniram Judson and shares his life story. I think that many things challenged me, and I learned many lessons from this book, but I would like to share two of the biggest lessons from the life of Adoniram Judson. 

One of the biggest things that I learned from the life of Adoniram Judson was that he was willing to go where nobody else had gone and was ready to give his life to serve Jesus. He was one of the first American missionaries to go overseas, and he created a path where no one else had ever gone. He was a trailblazer in his field. I think that in my life, I should be a trailblazer in my field as well. I should be looking beyond what the status quo is. I should be looking for opportunities to do something new. 

Another thing that I learned from Adoniram’s life was that he continued in the ministry. He went through many trials and setbacks. He lost two wives, was thrown in prison, and had many struggles and trials in his life, but he continued in the ministry despite it all. His ministry started very slowly, and it took a long time for him to see results from it. However, he stuck with the ministry, and there are still churches in Burma because of his ministry.

This shows me that if I want to have a successful ministry, then I am going to have to stick around for a long time. I have heard a successful missionary say that you need to stay around for the long haul if you want to have an impactful ministry. You will not begin to see significant results until about 20 years into your time in the ministry. I must remain in the ministry for a long time to see serious results. 

In conclusion, there are many more things that I have learned from his life, but these are two of the main things that I want to apply in my life.
